Improving Public Safety

Living in a large city offers many benefits, but it can also be stressful due to concerns about public safety. Together, we can work to reduce the crime rate and support security in our community. Stamford currently has a crime index score of 33 out of 100, meaning Stamford tends to be more unsafe. Many residents have voiced concerns about rising crime.

To address this, we must provide our law enforcement agencies with the resources to keep us safe and ensure our firefighters and EMS personnel are well-supported. By equipping our first responders with the necessary resources/training and building a collaborative effort, we can create a safer environment for Stamford. Here's how Olga plans to achieve this:

  • Supporting for First Responders: Prioritize support for first responders who have PTSD by advocating for compensation, access to necessary care, and paid leave for recovery.

  • Protections for Victims of Domestic Violence: Support increasing penalties for murders committed during acts of domestic violence to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Also, expand GPS monitoring for the most dangerous domestic violence offenders to ensure quality protection for victims.

  • Increasing Education & Training for First Responders: Strengthening cultural diversity and understanding among first responders is crucial. This includes enhancing education and training programs to equip them with the necessary skills and sensitivities to effectively serve diverse communities.

  • Consistent Training in Schools about Safety, Drugs & Violence Education: It is vital to ensure consistent and comprehensive training in schools regarding safety measures, drug awareness, and violence prevention education. This will empower students with essential knowledge and skills to navigate their environment safely and responsibly.

  • Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force: Supporting the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC-TF) to combat online exploitation and protect our children.

These initiatives aim to enhance public safety and support our communities effectively.
